V28-641 : MODERNISATION AGENDA - AREA FORUMS

The report of the Chief Executive considered the findings and recommendations of the Area Forum Member Officer Group which met on Thursday, 4 December 2000. This meeting considered information to help develop and propose the way forward for the forums, and a set of recommendations was put before members.
RESOLVED

1. That the proposed Waveney Area Forums be set up as Local Government Forums in joint partnership with the County Council.

2. That the model of Chesterfield Borough Council's arrangements with Derbyshire County Council be used as a basis for the constitution of the Forums.

3. That the Inaugural Meeting of the Blything, Southwold and Halesworth Forum take place during the last week of January 2001 and that Inaugural Meetings of the other seven Forums take place before the end of February 2001.

4. That these Inaugural Meetings have an agenda set by the Council.

5. That appropriate advertising of the Local Government Forums be devised with leaflet posters being distributed to Parish Councils, Doctors Surgeries, Post Offices, Libraries, Local Offices and other locations within the District.

6. That a Press Release be written advising of the dates of the Inaugural Meetings of the Forums and the Local Radio be approached to publicise these meetings.

7. That publicity be given inviting local people to nominate themselves as Co-optees to the Forums, and that the criteria of which will be similar to that of the Councillors nomination to become an elected member.

8. That the Group meet again in March 2001 to review the Forums following their inaugural meetings.

9. That each Local Government Forum be allocated £5,000 within the next financial year to spend in accordance with Council spending plans and authority.
