V28-603 : FOUL DRAINAGE REPLACEMENT WORK - CLERKS PIECE, BECCLES

The report of the Corporate Director (Community Services) proposed the replacement of the foul drainage system at Clerks Piece, Beccles, as recommended by the specialists employed by the Council to investigate the cause of on-going problems with blocked sewers.

The estimated cost of the work would not exceed £55K and budget provision was available in the capital programme. It was expected that 53 properties would be affected, with a number of these being purchased under the Right to Buy Scheme. It was expected that each of these owners would be required to contribute an equal share of the cost of the work, estimated at £1,000 + VAT, as required under the terms of their conveyance.

RESOLVED

1. That work to replace the foul drainage system at Clerks Piece, Beccles, at a cost of approximately £55,000 be approved.

2. That further consideration of the charging policy for the owner occupiers of the dwellings in Clerks Piece, Beccles, purchased under the Right to Buy Scheme be referred to the Community Services Policy Panel for determination.
