V28-598 : BEST START - BUSINESS START UP PROGRAMME

The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) outlined an approach from the Lowestoft Enterprise Trust for funding to assist the continuation of the Best Start Business Start up programme for a further 18 months.

Best Start was highly successful and a unique Business Start up programme operating in an area that historically had relatively low levels of entrepreneurship. Continued Council funding of £20,000 per annum would lever in over £300,000 to the District for business support purposes, mostly from the European Social Development Fund.

RESOLVED

1. That the Council agrees to continue to fund the Best Start Business Start Up programme for the period up to June 2002 at a cost of £20,000 per annum, to be met from the existing budget.

2. That the County Council be thanked for its continued support for the scheme as part of its commitment to the Waveney Partnership.
