V28-596 : RETAIL STUDY OF WAVENEY
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) outlined a need to employ consultants to undertake a joint study with Suffolk County Council for retail and regeneration purposes.
The first part of the study would involve an appraisal and analysis of the current and future retail performance of the District as part of the Local Plan Review process. The second aspect would concentrate on the long term future of London Road South, the role that retailing would play in regenerating the area, the opportunities to be derived from construction of the South Lowestoft Relief Road and the necessary links between these two proposals and London Road South.
Partial funding for the study could be found from the existing budget for the preparation of the Local Plan. The County Council had indicated that they were prepared to contribute approximately a third of the cost. It was estimated however that even with these contributions this would still leave a shortfall of £10,000 which would require a supplementary estimate.
The Executive considered that the County Council may be able to make a greater contribution to the cost of the study, and asked the Director to have further discussions to this effect. An update on the exact cost of the study and the County Council's contribution would be made at Council on 14 December 2000 when the supplementary estimate would be considered.
RESOLVED
That approval be given in principle to employ consultants to undertake a study for retail and regeneration purposes, with the costs being met by a contribution of approximately £10,000 from the budget for the preparation of the Local Plan, a County Council contribution to be negotiated, and a supplementary estimate of £10,000.
