V28-579 : PROPERTIES ADAPTED OR SPECIFICALLY BUILT FOR DISABLED APPLICANTS
The report of the Corporate Director (Community Services) had been referred to the Panel by The Executive at their meeting of 9 November 2000.
Applications were occasionally received from tenants of accommodation either specifically built or adapted for a disabled member of their family. That member may have moved on or passed away, with the dwelling then occupied by a tenant who was not disabled, or it may be that a disabled tenant required smaller accommodation. Due to the type of accommodation it was very unlikely that the tenant would have many points on the housing waiting list for a move to alternative accommodation.
As adapted accommodation was at a premium, the department would wish to utilise the properties in the most effective fashion.
RECOMMENDED
That, upon such a request from the applicant, the Head of Housing/Corporate Manager (Housing) be given delegated authority to give applicants residing in specially adapted/purpose built mobility standard properties a management priority status on the transfer list for a move.
