V28-553 : CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EXTRAORDINARY MEETING
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) concerned an Extraordinary Meeting of the Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber of Commerce on 31 October 2000 to consider whether the Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber of Commerce should remain part of the Norfolk and Waveney Chamber, join the Suffolk Chamber or establish a local Chamber covering Waveney alone.
The Head of Economic Development and the Chairman felt that the Council's preferred option would be for the Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber to join the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, and the Council's vote was cast for this option. At that EGM the Chamber Members voted for the Suffolk option.
The Chairman wished to stress that, whilst Waveney appeared to be shifting to become more Suffolk-based, the importance of cross-border liaison, particularly with Great Yarmouth, should not be neglected.
RESOLVED
That the action of the Head of Economic Development, in consultation with the Chairman, in casting the District Council's vote at the Chamber of Commerce Extraordinary Meeting, for the Suffolk option, be confirmed.
