V28-550 : LOCAL ENTERPRISE LEVELS

The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) provided feedback obtained from early discussions with the Small Business Services (Business Link) on the "enterprise challenge" facing Waveney.

Unemployment, low levels of entrepreneurship and low pay were the three most serious challenges facing the local economy at the present time, and a number of actions were proposed for investigation.

RESOLVED

1. That the measures suggested by the Small Business Service for Suffolk (Business Link) to help boost entrepreneurship in Waveney, being pursued through the Waveney Task Group of the Suffolk Development Agency, be endorsed.

2. That a bid to match District Council funding with Objective 2 grant aid for its own business support measures be developed and brought to the Panel for consideration.
