Application for illuminated shop sign.

The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) outlined a retrospective application for provision of an illuminated projecting sign on a takeaway food shop. The sign did not require consent if left without illumination.

The sign was a plastic box sign measuring 940mm by 610mm advertising "Millennium Takeaway". The sign would be internally illuminated and somewhat intrusive within the street scene. The area was predominantly residential in character and, although the sign may be suitable in a shopping or commercial area, it was considered out of character with its surroundings. As such, the Director recommended refusal and enforcement.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be refused to application A/W889, and that the Chief Executive be authorised to take enforcement action to ensure cessation of the illumination.
