V28-487 : W28/3 - 334 YARMOUTH ROAD, LOWESTOFT
Application for erection of side extension, including new double garage. The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) outlined a proposal to erect a side extension measuring 14.5 metres wide to the above detached bungalow, which was situated opposite the junction of Blundeston Road. The extension would provide additional living accommodation and a double garage. It was also proposed to amend the existing vehicular access.
Although the extension was large, it was set back five metres from the front of the property and had been designed in keeping and character with the original bungalow, and therefore did not appear over-dominant or out of scale. The main concern was the loss of trees in the adjacent woodland, which this extension would encroach into. A survey drawing showed the trees to be lost and the spread of canopies in relation to the proposed extension. Six mature trees would be affected, incorporating four oaks and two sycamores, although the Director felt these could be lost so long as they were replaced elsewhere on the plot. The Highways Agency had no objection, and the Director recommended approval subject to re- planting of lost trees. Members agreed with this view, but wished to ensure that controls were in place to ensure no further trees were damaged during the building work. RESOLVED
That planning permission be granted to application W28/3, subject to replacement planting elsewhere on the plot of lost trees.
