V28-417 : LAND AT REAR 72/73 HIGH STREET, LOWESTOFT
The report of the Chief Executive outlined a request by the Lowestoft Civic Society for the Council to make a Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire a derelict site which restricted access to land owned by the Society which would serve as a car park in connection with the proposed uses of the refurbished Old School House.
The Society had tried to acquire this small, derelict building by consent from its owner, but without success. The owner did not appear to have any use for the building, which had been derelict and unused for some time and had recently been the subject of a Dangerous Building Notice and court action by the Council under the Building Act 1984. Once acquired the derelict building would be demolished and the cleared land sold to the Society. It was proposed that the Society meet all costs incurred by the Council including legal fees and land clearance costs.
RESOLVED
1. That a Compulsory Purchase Order be authorised in respect of the land and derelict building at the rear of 72/73 High Street, Lowestoft, subject to the Lowestoft Civic Society meeting the Council's expenses including legal fees and land clearance costs. 2. That upon completion of the above, the land at the rear of 72/73 High Street, Lowestoft, be sold to the Lowestoft Civic Society at nil consideration, subject to the Society meeting the Council's legal costs.
