Council Minutes System

Corporate & Policy Services - 13/06/00

V28-40 : FUTURE WORK

The report of the Chief Executive identified policy issues which could be brought to the Panel, and members discussed these in terms of the sort of information they would need on these topics. The Panel was then asked to brain-storm any other possible topics which they felt officers should bring forward reports on. This exercise led to the following topics being identified: land and premises; reducing paperwork; emergency planning, access for disabled employees; polling station access; the restructuring; asset management; employee/member relations.

Once they had received the minutes of the meeting individual members would identify to the Chairman those areas they felt to be of most importance, and a prioritised list of reports would be produced from this.

The Director of Central Services then identified several areas where members could need training. These included Equal Opportunities, Interviewing, New Members Training, an IT Open Day, Voter Participation, Area Forum Operation, Dealing with the Public, Chairing Meetings and Meeting Etiquette. This was not a complete list, but was considered to be the start of a new requirement for a continuous training programme for members to enable them to take a more active role in Council business.

RESOLVED

1. That officers bring forward reports from a prioritised list of topics to be provided by the Panel.

2. That a member training programme be arranged based on the areas identified at the meeting and where considered appropriate by the Chief Executive.

The meeting was concluded at 9.25pm.
