V28-379 : HOUSING RENT - DIRECT DEBITS

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services outlined a proposal to introduce direct debits for Council tenants as a means of paying their rent. This would replace standing order to ease the administrative burden of renewing bank mandates each time there was a change in the rent, particularly at the start of each financial year.

It was intended to promote the introduction of direct debits by offering a £50 prize in a draw open to all tenants that set up a direct debit before the end of March 2001.

RESOLVED

That the introduction of payment of housing rent by direct debit be approved, and a financial incentive of a £50 prize draw be offered to maximise take-up by tenants.
