V28-353 : PERIODICAL ELECTORAL REVIEW OF WAVENEY DISTRICT COUNCIL
The report of the Chief Executive gave details of the legal and procedural framework for the Local Government Commission's impending review of Waveney District Council's electoral arrangements. It set out the Commission's review criteria and gave two review options that had been worked up in detail. The Commission's deadline for submissions was 2 October 2000.
The Panel considered that both options should be submitted for public consultation to stimulate as much debate as possible from the public. However, members agreed a preference for Option 1.
A further sub-option was proposed with Southwold and Reydon forming a separate ward with two members, and the remaining rural parishes being grouped together to form two wards with two members each. Officers would seek to make this modification to both options as sub-options 1A and 2A for the purposes of consultation.
It was further agreed that this report would be copied to all members and parish representatives to further canvass opinion.
RESOLVED
1. That both Option 1 and Option 2 be submitted for public consultation as the Council's proposals for the Periodical Electoral Review of Waveney District Council. 2. That Option 1 be the Council's preferred option at this stage.
3. That a sub-option of each option be produced which creates a Southwold/Reydon Ward, and two wards for the remaining rural parishes.
The meeting was concluded at 9.00 pm.
