V28-351 : WAVENEY LOCAL PLAN REVIEW - SHOPPING AND TOWN CENTRES TOPIC PAPER
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) presented the Waveney Local Plan's Shopping and Town Centre Topic Paper for discussion. Again, members were asked to identify key issues to be carried forward to the Issues Report. Members felt that the cost of retail floorspace was much cheaper in Lowestoft than other towns because the quality of shopping was lower. Lowestoft was a tourist centre, and needed more appropriate shops. Members also felt that Objective 2 funding should be sought for environmental improvements in the Town Centre, perhaps with a view to returning the Town Centre to how it may have looked 50 years ago. Finally, under Strengths in the SWOT analysis, the fact that Waveney was a major tourist centre should be added. RESOLVED
That the comments of the Panel on the Waveney Local Plan Shopping and Town Centres Topic Paper be taken into account when formulating strategies and policies, and that members establish a set of priorities for these policies at a future meeting. The meeting was concluded at 9.20pm.
