V28-348 : QUARTERLY REPORT ON BUSINESS LEADS AND POTENTIAL EMPLOYMENT
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) was on the agenda following receipt of a letter from Councillor Partridge requesting that a quarterly report on business leads and potential employment in the District be submitted to the Panel. The Head of Economic Development advised on the technical implications of providing such information on a regular basis. Using the draft format provided by Councillor Partridge, Mr Dowdall said that information could be provided using code names for companies to maintain confidentiality. Information on the number of companies with over 20 employees and under 20 employees approaching the Unit each quarter would be provided. Regarding the number of established companies lost per quarter, as there was no legal requirement for a company closing its operation to notify the Council or the Employment Service if the number of employees affected was below 100, it was likely that only major closures reported in the press would be known. Finally, any information given would only provide a snapshot of those business expansion proposals that had actually approached the Economic Development Unit.
RESOLVED
That a report on business leads and potential employment in the District be submitted quarterly to the Panel as soon as replacement staff in the Economic Development Unit are in post, and that a review of the format of the report take place after one year. The meeting was concluded at 9.35pm.
