V28-344 : NEW ASSISTED AREA MAP PROPOSALS
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) set out the impact on Waveney of the Government's final proposals for the Assisted Area Map which were recently agreed with the European Commission. Twelve Waveney wards had qualified for inclusion in the Map, which would apply from 2000 to 2006.
The potential benefits of Assisted Area Status would be outlined in a future report to the Panel. Members also felt it important that the presentation promised to the Economic Development Unit by the Department of Trade and Industry should take place, and that members of the Panel should be able to attend.
RESOLVED
1. That the Panel welcome the news of Waveney's inclusion on the new Assisted Area map, and Suffolk County Council be thanked for their assistance in the campaign for designation.
2. That a report setting out the potential benefits of Assisted Area Status be brought to a future meeting of the Panel.
3. That the Department of Trade and Industry be approached with a request to make a presentation to members, officers and other external representatives on the detailed eligibility conditions/procedures for grant applications.
