V28-340 : SOUTHWOLD HARBOUR

The report of the Corporate Director (Community Services) drew members' attention to a range of issues concerning this important economic and environmentally sensitive area of Southwold. It recommended a comprehensive study with supporting consultation to determine the sustainable future of the Harbour and environs; a report defining the scope and arrangements for public consultation could be presented either to the Panel, or to the inaugural meeting of the Southwold Area Forum.

Members felt this was an excellent opportunity to bring in the Area Forum, but as this subject was a complicated and sensitive one the comprehensive support of officers familiar with the problems at Southwold Harbour would be required. It was also important that the Southwold Area Forum was set up as a matter of urgency in order to avoid delaying this discussion. Members also felt they should be fully aware of the problems associated with the site, and wished to attend a site meeting prior to the Forum taking place.

RESOLVED

1. That a report be presented to the inaugural meeting of the Southwold Area Forum defining the scope and arrangements for public consultations with other interested parties and agencies in respect of the Southwold Harbour area, and that the consultation methodology adopted by the Council for the purposes of Best Value be applied.

2. That the member responsible for the setting up of the Area Forums be asked to treat the setting up of the Southwold Area Forum as a matter of urgency.

3. That a site meeting be held at Southwold Harbour prior to the meeting of the Area Forum taking place.
