V28-325 : VARIATION OF PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT LICENCE,

THE ARENA/HANKS BAR, LOWESTOFT, 2.00AM CLOSING

The report of the Chief Executive reminded members that at the meeting of 16 March 2000 the Panel granted a variation to the Annual Public Entertainment Licence for the Arena/Hanks Bar on Thursday/Friday and Saturday nights to 2.00 am, to commence on 1 April 2000 and be reviewed on 30 September 2000.

The Environmental Services Division had received noise complaints the previous summer and suggested monthly monitoring and review for at least the first year of operation. The further observations of the Police and Environmental Services were reported to the Panel. The owners of a Guest House opposite, who had previously complained, had moved from the area; the new occupants had not continued the complaint. A letter from visitors to the town, staying at another Guest House, complaining of early morning noise, was also considered.

The former Guest House owners had also complained previously of noise from the taxi rank outside the premises. The Taxi Enforcement Officer had been unable to find a suitable alternative location.

RESOLVED

That the Arena/Hanks Bar, Lowestoft, be granted a further six month Licence for 2.00 am closing on Thursday/Friday and Saturdays, to expire in line with all other Annual Public Entertainment Licences, and to be reviewed at that time.
