V28-318 : HACKNEY CARRIAGE, WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE SIGN

The report of the Chief Executive proposed a revision of the conditions attached to Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers licences. An independent proprietor/driver had asked for permission to display a sign on the rear of his vehicle to inform of the wheelchair facility availability, his name and telephone number

RESOLVED

That the request to display a sign on the rear of a vehicle informing of a wheelchair facility, be approved, subject to condition (g) below being added to page 2, paragraph 7 of the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing booklet:

"(g) A sign advertising that a wheelchair facility or facilities are available together with the proprietor's name and/or company name and telephone number (not a mobile phone number) be displayed in discernible colours other than yellow and black on the rear bodywork of purpose built Hackney Carriages, centrally below the window and above the boot lid. The sign shall not exceed 25 mm in height and shall not be wider than the width of the rear window."
