Application for change of use to include sand blasting.

The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) reminded members that at the June meeting of the Panel permission had been granted for change of use of the redundant agricultural buildings from a commercial garage to an artists studio and fine art bronze casting business. A temporary two year permission was also given for a residential mobile home as part of the proposal. At the 16 August 2000 meeting the present application had been deferred for receipt of further detail on the level of activity and its likely impact on the surrounding area.

The present application was for change of use to include sand blasting. The applicant currently operated his business from a site near Diss, but wished to relocate. The business involved the repair and renovation of machinery for which consent already existed at the site, but would involve sand blasting. As there were no residential properties within half a mile of the site the use was unlikely to be a problem, but the Parish Council recommended refusal on grounds of noise and dust pollution. The applicant's premises near Diss had been visited by Environmental Health, and though surrounded by residential properties there were no records of complaints.

A benefit to this proposal was that, as there would be no expensive equipment on the site there would be no need for residential accommodation. The site would be monitored on a regular basis by Environmental Health, and the Director recommended approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W13892/6.
