V28-295 : W2528/12 - RIVERSIDE MALTINGS, HALESWORTH - CHANGE OF USE TO RESIDEN
AND CONSTRUCT NEW SPORTS LEISURE BUILDING
The report of the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) reminded members that at the June meeting of the Panel they had given delegated authority to grant planning permission to the above and to negotiate layout of the sports facility. The applicants had since stated that they no longer wished to have squash courts as part of the development due to the declining demand for the sport.
The applicants now proposed to incorporate a fitness room and plunge pool on the ground floor and multi-purpose fitness room on the first floor. Sport England and the Council's Leisure Services Officer accepted that squash was in decline. Whilst the current proposal would therefore not be a like for like replacement, it would offer a sports and leisure building within the town which would be of wider community use. The Town Council supported the proposal.
RESOLVED
That the Corporate Director (Regeneration and Environment) be authorised to conclude negotiation on the revised details of application W2528/12.
(Councillor Aldous declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
