V28-276 : W1446/1 - STELLA PESKETT HALL, MIGHTS ROAD, SOUTHWOLD
Application for the construction of a new Public Hall.
The report of the Head of Planning outlined an application to demolish the existing public hall and erect a new hall. The existing hall was in a poor state of repair and suffering from movement. The principle of a hall in this location was already accepted, and there appeared little reason in planning terms why a replacement hall was not acceptable. It was clear, however, that this was an important site at the gateway into Southwold and redevelopment of the site offered an opportunity to upgrade a part of the town that did not currently reflect architectural and natural quality. The proposal partially incorporated in the choice of brick the combination to be found in the locality, which were red and buff bricks, seeking to reflect local design with brick quoins, but could still do with an improved design which took advantage of its location. The Head of Planning recommended that he be given delegated authority to approve the final design.
RESOLVED
That the Head of Planning be given delegated authority to grant planning permission to application W1446/1, subject to an acceptable final design.
