V28-272 : W16577/2 - SEAVIEW HOUSE, THE MARINA, LOWESTOFT

Application for change of use from offices to residential.

The report of the Head of Planning advised that Sea View House was a three-storey bay fronted building attached to a two storey building, and situated within the town centre although outside the primary retail area. The building was currently in use as offices and it was proposed to convert the property to provide a family dwelling house. There was a small enclosed yard to the rear, and two attached stores. There was no off-street parking facility, or the potential to create any.

The use of the property as a family house with no amenity facilities or off-street parking facilities was not considered acceptable in this commercial location, and the Head of Planning recommended refusal.

Members, however, were concerned that the property had been empty for some time, and wondered what state of disrepair it may fall into if this situation continued. They preferred to see the building restored into a home rather than become more dilapidated, and as there was also a surplus of office accommodation within the town, were minded to approve the application.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W16577/2.
