V28-27 : PLANNING POLICY AT DIFFERENT LEVELS
The report of the Head of Planning reviewed and brought members up to date with planning policy issues at national, regional, county and local levels.
The Panel was asked to endorse the Head of Planning's comments on the Regional Planning Guidance and the statement made on Waveney's behalf to the public consultation on the Structure Plan Examination.
Councillors asked that the final figure of 6,700 dwellings as the commitment to new housing at Issue 4 of Appendix II be thoroughly checked, and that greater emphasis be given to the statement at 3.8 of the report relating to the sustainability of future housing levels. The Head of Planning was also asked to investigate the possibility of signage to keep heavy goods vehicles on the A12/A146 to Beccles instead of using the A145 through Brampton and Shadingfield.
The Chairman reminded the Panel that they had their own Agenda for what could now be discussed at future meetings. To this end, members asked that a half-hour seminar on planning issues selected by the Head of Planning be made at the start of the next meeting on 20 June 2000. Members asked that items on the South Beach development and Beccles Common also be included on the Agenda.
Copies of the Local Plan programme and the Socio-Economic Profile of Waveney were circulated at the meeting. Copies of the Council's Economic Development Strategy would be sent to members after the meeting.
RECOMMENDED
1. That the comments in Appendix 1 of the report of the Head of Planning be approved as representing the Council's views on the draft Regional Planning Guidance March 2000. 2.
