Application for the construction of nine houses.

The report of the Head of Planning outlined a proposal to erect nine three-bedroom dwellings in two octagonal terraces on the corner of Jermyns Road and Covert Road. The scheme would incorporate three different house types with nine car parking spaces to the rear of the properties accessed via a new driveway off Covert Road. The Parish Council recommended refusal of the application for reasons including the site not being infill, sewage overspill in severe weather, another access onto Covert Road and loss of local amenities. Neighbours were also concerned that the existing drainage system would not be able to cope.

Following concerns from the County Surveyor the proposed access to the development had been moved back to the existing car park access. Concern was also expressed at the number of car parking spaces, which the County Surveyor recommended to be two spaces per dwelling. However, the overall scheme depended on its design and in order to retain symmetry and cohesiveness it was considered appropriate in this instance to relax these advisory standards. The drainage authority were generally happy but requested additional detail, and the developer had stated that he would be prepared to provide two separate sewage systems on the site if required. The Head of Planning recommended approval of the amended design.
