V28-26 : INWARD INVESTMENT
The Chairman, under the statutory provision accorded to him, permitted Councillor Partridge's request that this item be discussed before the Chief Executive's representative left the meeting.
Councillor Partridge felt there was little presently on the Agenda relating to increasing jobs in Waveney. He felt members had a `need to know' on this subject, and asked if in future a Schedule of Inquiries from inward investment could be published to keep Councillors abreast of an major developments.
Given the sensitive nature of some enquiries, the Chief Executive was unsure as to the legal perspective on such a document, but would consult and report back. It was stressed again that inward investment accounted for under 5% of the Unit's work, and he was reluctant to commit major resources into an area that had been criticised nationally by the Audit Commission. Members were reminded that the Economic Development Strategy for 2000/01 had already been approved by the former Economic Development Sub-Committee. RESOLVED
1. That the legality of the request for a Schedule of Inquiries from Inward Investment be investigated, and if permissible, a quarterly schedule be produced for the Panel. 2. That a report on Inward Investment be presented to the next meeting of the Panel.
