V28-245 : W3898/19 - ANGLIAN WATER SITE, STIRRUPS LANE, CORTON

Application to change approved roof material for main dome of proposed Waste Water Treatment Centre (WWTC) - Variation of Condition of W3898/18.

The report of the Head of Planning reminded members that the application for the WWTC was approved by Suffolk County Council in April 1999, and construction had proceeded. Anglian Water's architect had been assessing the technical performance of the sheet cladding of the dome roof, which Suffolk County Council had required to be "coloured" and non- reflective.

In researching the specification for that material the architect preferred an alternative with no surface coating. This would be more sustainable in production, have a longer life and have sustainability for recycling, as there would be no laminated plastic to remove. A weathered sample of the alternative material was circulated, which had the appearance of finely pitted pewter with black oxide in some of the pits. This would give a well weathered, attractive but unobtrusive look. It would not suffer from peeling paint or plastic coating, and would have a life of approximately 60 years as opposed to 15 to 20 years for the original choice. The weathering process should be quicker in a marine environment, and the Head of Planning recommended approval.

RESOLVED

That Suffolk County Council be advised that this Council has no objection to the grant of planning permission to application W3898/19.
