Application for the erection of a glasshouse for the propagation/retail of plants.

The report of the Head of Planning advised that the business at Winter Flora had been undergoing a gradual transformation from a dried flower specialist wholesaler to a garden centre. The current proposals made the change explicit, with a very substantial addition to the retail floorspace in the form of a large glasshouse.

The glasshouse was a second hand structure with a double pitched roof. It would be sited gable ends on to the main road such that it would form an L shape with the existing shop building, joined with a covered link. The overall appearance would be acceptable, but could be improved by the addition of a pergola or similar decorative feature at the end closest to the main road, or additional landscaping. The proposal could create additional employment, and the Head of Planning recommended approval subject to detailed design.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W6210/7, subject to detailed design being acceptable.
