Development Control - 21/06/00

V28-217 : W8686/23 - LAND AT FORMER LOTHINGLAND HOSPITAL GROUNDS, OFF UNION LA

OULTON

The report of the Head of Planning reminded members that the Development Control Committee resolved to take enforcement action in November 1999 against the unauthorised storage of cars on land at the above former hospital. Enforcement notices were served and were to be complied with by 14 July 2000.

By the end of 1999 demolition of the former hospital was complete, and there was temporary storage on the site of reclaimed building materials and equipment needed for the demolition. However, by April 2000 many such items still remained, and had actually increased. Complaints had been received regarding the eyesore, the associated traffic and the risk that the unauthorised uses were still escalating. No response had been received to verbal and written requests to clear the land, and the Head of Planning recommended that the Chief Executive be authorised to secure the cessation of the situation.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to issue an Enforcement Notice and to take all pursuant action to secure the cessation of the storage of building materials, equipment, portable buildings, vehicles and related items on Land at Former Lothingland Hospital, off Union Lane, Oulton.
