V28-191 : W387/33 - UNIT 23, HALESWORTH BUSINESS PARK, NORWICH ROAD, HALESWORT

Application for erection of single storey office porta cabin and use of forecourt for car sales.

The report of the Head of Planning advised that the above site formed part of the industrial area allocated in the Waveney Local Plan. Currently the site was surrounded by chain link fencing with an established hedgerow to the Norwich Road boundary with a concrete hardstanding covering most of the surface area.

In answer to the Town Council's concern over the hedge, the applicants stated that this would be retained. Policy stated that industrial land should be retained for industrial purposes. Additionally industrial land within the Halesworth area was becoming scarce, and for these reasons the Head of Planning recommended refusal.

The applicant's lease of the site was for three years, and members were of the opinion that temporary permission should be granted for this period in order to establish whether the business would be viable. This would be subject to retention of the hedge.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W387/33, temporary for three years, subject to retention of the hedgerow to the Norwich Road boundary.
