V28-160 : W15497/2 - HARBOUR VIEWING AREA ADJACENT TO BASCULE BRIDGE, LOWESTOF
Application for erection of a 4.2 metre high sculpture of a lifeboatman. The report of the Head of Planning concerned a 3.5 metre high sculpture of a lifeboatman which had been created for siting at a suitable location within Lowestoft. Other sites had been considered, with consent being granted for placing in Belle Vue Park and The Esplanade, but it was now felt the most appropriate site was at the harbour viewing area immediately south of the bascule bridge.
The sculpture was made from steel, concrete and polyurethane foam and finished in glass reinforced plastic with a bronze finish. It would be sited on a plinth to give a total height of 4.2 metres. The proposed siting was considered acceptable in planning terms and would create a feature of visual interest within an area designated for tourism uses. The Head of Planning recommended approval.
RESOLVED
That for the purposes of paragraph 4(5) of the Town and Country Planning General Regulations 1976 deemed planning permission be granted to application W15497/2
