V28-128 : COMMUNICATIONS
(a) Royal Doulton Ceramic Miniature - Thatched Cottage
The Chairman showed members a ceramic miniature of the thatched cottage at Sparrows Nest, which had been donated by the Royal Doulton concession at the Westgate store. The miniature had been produced by Royal Doulton as part of their Lilliput Lane series of collectables.
(b) National Cycle Network
The Chairman displayed a metal plaque received from the National Cycle Network which commemorated the 10,000 miles National Cycle Network and the longest cyclethon ride on 21 June 2000. It was suggested that the plaque was displayed somewhere within the community where it could be seen.
(c) The Island Race
The Chairman displayed a scroll, signed by Princess Margaret, which had been presented to the Council in recognition that the Island Race had passed Lowestoft being the most easterly point. The Island Race was a four and a half thousand mile relay, of 100 teams of runners, around the coastline of Great Britain. At the same time runners attempted to visit each of the Country's lighthouses.
In addition, the Lowestoft Lighthouse manager had invited all members to visit the Lighthouse, and it was suggested that if any members wished to accept this invitation they inform Janet Cutts, and the Chairman would then make arrangements.
(d) Dutch Lifeboat Crew
The Vice Chairman showed members an etching presented to the Council by the Dutch Lifeboat Crew which visited Lowestoft during the Fishing Fair. The limited edition etching depicted the old lifeboat station at the Hook of Holland.
(e) European OSY 400 Hydroplane Championships 2000
The Vice Chairman displayed a limited edition plate commemorating the European OSY 400 Hydroplane Championships 2000, which was recently held at Oulton Broad, and presented by the Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motorboat Club to the Council. The event attracted competitors from Lithuania, Latvia, Austria, Germany and France.
