(a) Civic Carol Service
The Chairman reminded members that the Civic Carol Service was to be held on 19 December 1999 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Gordon Road, Lowestoft, at 3.30 pm. (b) T S Brave - the Sea Cadets
The Chairman informed members that T S Brave, the Beccles Unit Sea Cadet Corps number 554, would be holding their annual award ceremony on 16 December 1999 at the Public Hall, Beccles and that an invitation had been extended to all members of the Council to attend. The event would commence with colours at 7.30 pm and members were advised to arrive before 7.15 pm.
(c) Councillor Frank Devereux - Charity Swim
The Chairman advised Councillors that Councillor Frank Devereux and his wife Barbara were again joining the Christmas Day morning swimmers in a bid to raise money for charity. The charities they were collecting for this year were Lowestoft Live Art Centre, the Contact Centre, Abbeyfields Society, Waveney Warriors, DIAL, May Centre, Friends of Lothingland Hospital and Waveney Area Transport. Councillor Devereux was looking for sponsors and also any brave Councillors wishing to join both him and his wife on the day. A sponsorship form was provided in the foyer outside the Chamber.
(d) ONE Pilot
The Chairman reported that he had received a letter from the Department for Education and Employment thanking the Council for its support and practical help it had contributed to the ONE pilot. Quoted from the letter "We know that ONE is a bold and complex venture. We have asked much of you over the past months but you and your colleagues in the Local Authority have delivered. It is a tribute to your help and support that ONE will not only begin on time but, we are sure, prove a tremendous success."
