V27-900 : MILLENNIUM EVE BEACH PARTY

The report of the Director of Community Services gave an overview of the planned New Year's Eve Beach Party which was to take place on Lowestoft Seafront/Royal Green from 2pm on 31 December 1999 through to 2am on 1 January 2000.

Surveys were being undertaken to estimate numbers, and an emergency plan was being put in place to provide support services for the event, together with the Police.

Members were concerned that there would be no public transport and possibly few taxis available on the evening, and felt a positive gesture could be made by providing free car parking both during the evening and into the morning of 1 January 2000. People would then be able to leave their cars overnight if they decided not to drive home.

RESOLVED

1. That the proposed Millennium Eve Beach Party be approved.

2. That the Policy and Resources Committee be recommended to consider the provision of free car parking from the evening of 31 December 1999 until the morning of 1 January 2000, with the exact timings to be set by that Committee.
