V27-87 : WATER METER POLICY REVIEW

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services reminded members of the existing policy set at minute V25-700, whereby authority was delegated to the Director to approve requests by tenants for the installation of water meters in one or two bedroomed Council-owned properties, where the tenant or their spouse/partner was of state pensionable age.
The report detailed complaints that the policy was unfair and did not accord with Central Government's wish to empower tenants in decision making. Complaints had also been received concerning one bedroomed properties that would only house single people, whatever their age.

In the light of these views, members wished to take the opportunity to reconsider existing policy. Members felt that the policy should be changed to allow water meters to be fitted in one bedroomed properties, at the request of the tenant, whatever their age. Existing policy on two and three bedroomed properties would continue.

RESOLVED

That water meters be fitted to one-bedroomed properties, where the tenant requests this, whether or not the tenant is of pensionable age.
