Development Control - 17/11/99

V27-856 : W6926 - FORMER STAR PUBLIC HOUSE, STATION ROAD, BECCLES

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control was considered as a matter of urgency, under the statutory provision accorded to the Chairman, as urgent action needed to be taken concerning building works in process.

Work was taking place to convert the above former public house into four flats. The approved plans provided for the installation of a number of new windows, some in new openings and some replacing originals, and indicated new sash windows to match existing. A subsequent amendment provided for re-siting the cornice over the original door and window openings to conceal timber beams exposed during construction.

The work in progress had left the cornice in its original position, and taller casement windows had been installed flush with the face of the walls rather than set in reveals. The Director felt these deviations from the approved plans were unacceptable on this prominent site within the Beccles Conservation Area.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to issue a Breach of Condition Notice and to take all pursuant action in respect of works at the Star Public House, Station Road, Beccles.

The meeting was concluded at 8.40pm.
