V27-808 : DIRECTOR OF HEALTH CARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH FOR SUFFOLK HEALTH AUTHORI
Dr Brian Keeble attended the meeting to present his annual report. His talk focused on three chapters from the 1999 report: Inequalities in Death; Using Accident and Emergency Services; and Emergency Admissions to Hospital.
From available statistics, Dr Keeble was able to develop a clear link between emergency admissions and County Wards with high levels of deprivation, with Lowestoft's Kirkley and Harbour Wards appearing consistently in the figures. Dr Keeble also highlighted the much shorter average length of time spent in hospital by Waveney, especially Lowestoft, residents compared to the Suffolk average.
Dr Keeble's talk was followed by a members' question and answer session. The Chairman thanked him for a very interesting and highly informative presentation.
