V27-696 : FARMERS' MARKETS REGIONAL CO-ORDINATION

The report of the Chief Executive set out a request from Suffolk County Council for assistance with funding for a Regional Co-ordinator for local farmers' markets. The Co- ordinator would provide publicity, ensure there was no overlap between markets, loan equipment to organisations and help to establish quality standards for the markets.

Funding was requested for two years to pump-prime the organisation of farmers' markets as they become increasingly more popular. After this period it was expected that local producers would fund the position as part of a subscription scheme.

RECOMMENDED

That a contribution of £250 per annum for two years be made towards a Farmers' Markets Regional Co-ordinator, to be met from the Promotions and Initiatives Budget.
