V27-67 : BECCLES CYCLE STRATEGY - ROUTE 1

The report of the Director of Community Services outlined a proposal by the Beccles Cycle Strategy (BCS) to provide a cycle route connecting the Sir John Leman School with Cucumber Lane as part of Route 1 of the Beccles cycle network. The proposed route crossed this Authority's cemetery at Beccles, and BCS had been negotiating with officers looking in detail at the most acceptable means of doing this.

Members were asked to give approval to the dedication of part of the cemetery land to allow the cycle path to be constructed. The route would run along the southern border of the cemetery extension in a corridor three metres wide. Loss of land would be minimal, and the cycle track would form a boundary to the extended cemetery. BCS had approached the Council for a contribution towards the provision of Route 1, for which there was no dedicated budget available, and it was suggested that the land to be dedicated be provided free of charge.

RESOLVED

That the Director of Community Services be authorised to conclude negotiations with the Beccles Cycle Strategy for the dedication of part of the Beccles Cemetery land as a pedestrian and cycle route.
