V27-65 : ACTIVE SPORTS IN SUFFOLK
The report of the Director of Community Services described a new sports development initiative sponsored by Sport England to set up county partnerships to deliver a co- ordinated programme across England to improve access to organised sport by young people.
The funding of the infrastructure for the scheme would be achieved through a 50% government grant, £150K over the five years of the scheme, with the balance provided by the partners in cash or in kind. The scheme would require a cash input of £1,000 per annum from each local authority. The programme to deliver the scheme would be funded through Sport Lottery applications and matched funds raised by the partnership. The Council had been asked to host and accommodate the position of Active Sports Manager on behalf of the partnership and provide the support services, the costs of which would be shared by the partnership.
RESOLVED
1. That the Council participates as a partner in the Active Sports initiative and becomes a signatory to the Memorandum of Understanding which regulates the partnership, subject to the Director of Community Services being satisfied with all terms and conditions.
2. That £1,000 per annum be set aside over the next five years as contribution to the Active Sports in Suffolk partnership, in addition to in kind contribution in the form of officer hours, to be met from within existing budgets.
3. That the Council offers to host the position of Active Sports Manager on behalf of the Suffolk partnership.
