V27-564 : CENTRAL HEATING - GAS SERVICE CONTRACT

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services reminded members that the contract to service all the gas appliances in the Council's properties had recently been advertised for a one year period. Following the closure date only two companies had been identified as financially suitable to undertake the work, T. Dukes Ltd., the existing contractor, and Silenster Ltd.

Upon analysing the companies it was established that Silenster Ltd. lacked experience of domestic work, all their major contracts involving work on large industrial type systems. Additionally the company were not based locally.

RESOLVED

That Standing Order 6.2(c) be invoked to allow a partnership between the Council and T. Dukes Ltd. to be entered into for the Gas Servicing Contract for the period October 1999 to September 2000.
