V27-561 : WORLD TRADE ORGANISATION - MINISTERIAL MEETING

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services provided a Statement from the International Civil Society opposing the latest proposals on trade liberalisation due to be discussed in November 1999.

Members supported this opposition, but in view of the wider implication wished to refer the issue to the Policy and Resources Committee recommending their support.

RESOLVED

That, in view of the wider implication, this issue be referred to the Policy and Resources Committee asking them to support this Committee authorising the Chief Executive to sign, on behalf of the Council, the statement of support on the proposed moratorium on further trade negotiations by the World Trade Organisation.
