Community Services - 16/09/99

V27-518 : GREAT EASTERN LINEAR PARK, LOWESTOFT

The report of the Director of Community Services outlined an offer of funding from GO-East towards the Great Eastern Linear Park. The funding would match the £60,000 contribution to be made from the Lowestoft Package in 1999/2000, and would enable the cycle and pedestrian path to be constructed between Marham Road/Evergreen Road and Church Road.

Objections to the scheme meant that further options needed to be considered before works could proceed to Yarmouth Road. Due to the complexity of the problems it was suggested that a Working Party be set up to guide future consultations.

The Planning and Transportation Committee also considered this report at its meeting on 14 September 1999, and approved the recommendations and appointed Councillors Ayers, Devereux and R. Winterton to the Working Party.

RESOLVED

1. That the GO-East offer of funding towards the Great Eastern Linear Park be welcomed, and tenders invited for the proposed park between Marham
Road/Evergreen Road and Church Road.

2. That a Working Party consisting of three members each from the Planning and Transportation and Community Services Committees be set up to guide
consultations on that part of the proposed park between Church Road and Yarmouth Road, and that attendance be authorised as an approved duty.

3. That Councillors Kelly, Thorne and Shepherd be appointed to the Great Eastern Linear Park Working Party for 1999/2000.
