V27-517 : RELOCATION OF SOUTHWOLD DISTRICT OFFICE AND TOURIST INFORMATION CENT

The report of the Director of Community Services summarised the progress to date in the relocation of Southwold District Office and Tourist Information Centre from the ground floor of the Town Hall into adapted and refurbished vacant shop premises at 69 High Street, Southwold, and outlined two options for completing the project.

Members preferred Option A, with the aim of removing the cash payment facility from the Local Office, with the bank next door providing that service. As this Option was likely to have staffing and other implications, the Director of Central Services and the Chief Executive recommended that the matter be referred to Policy and Resources Committee, when a full report would be prepared outlining such implications.

RESOLVED

1. That the proposal to adapt and refurbish the vacant shop premises at number 69 High Street, Southwold, to house the new Tourist Information Centre and District Office, be approved.

2. That the Director of Community Services be given delegated authority to appoint a contractor, subject to the evaluation report of the Council's appointed Quantity Surveyors.

3. That consideration of the two project Options for the refurbishment of the new premises, as set out in the report of the Director of Community Services, be referred to Policy and Resources Committee, with a recommendation of accepting Option A, and that a full report detailing the implications of choosing that Option be taken to that Committee.
