V27-370 : VEHICLE CHECKS

The report of the Director of Waveney Contract Services concerned the recent spot-check inspection of vehicles in the Lowestoft area by the Vehicle Inspectorate, where a vehicle hired by the Parks Section was found to have a defective tyre and a loose prop shaft.

Waveney Contract Services had a responsibility to operate a vehicle check system on all vehicles, owned and hired, to ensure the driver duties were carried out. Although the daily check paperwork had been completed by the driver, the defective tyre was not picked up. Subsequently, the opportunity had been taken to tighten up the procedures and remind all drivers of their responsibilities to check their vehicles.

The Vehicle Inspectorate had also visited the Department's workshops to check systems and procedures and appeared satisfied.

That the report on Vehicle Checks be received.
