V27-357 : ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS TRAINING FOR ELECTED MEMBERS

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services considered the provision of training for members to increase their understanding of the key concepts involved in environmental awareness.

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) had recently launched an Environmental Awareness Certificate which was designed to provide an introduction in the appropriate areas. CIEH had agreed to provide funding towards the training costs as they would gain promotion.

The Policy and Resources Committee was to consider this report at its meeting on 22 July 1999.

RESOLVED

1. That all elected members be encouraged to undertake the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Environmental Awareness Certificate, and attendance on the training course be authorised as an approved duty.

2. That the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food and Safety) should be authorised to negotiate with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health regarding funding of the training course, any shortfall being funded from within existing Member training budgets.
