V27-249 : AGENDA 2000 UPDATE

The report of the Chief Executive provided an update on the position of the Eastern region and the Council's cases for Objective 2 designation under the European Union's Agenda 2000 Reform of the Structural Funds.

It informed members of the current lobbying activity taking place including cases submitted for Objective 2 designation for the Lowestoft area and the timetable for the announcement of the UK Objective 2 map.

RECOMMENDED

1. That the Council led industrial and fisheries strand cases for Objective 2 designation be endorsed, and that a further Agenda 2000 update be presented to this Sub-Committee in September 1999.

2. That a joint supporting statement with Great Yarmouth Borough Council be supported.
