V27-234 : AUDIT COMMISSION - FRAUD AND LODGING REPORT

The report of the Chief Internal Auditor summarised the main findings of the Audit Commission's latest annual update of progress in tackling fraud and error in Housing Benefit.

Waveney had embarked on a number of initiatives to address the problem of Housing Benefit abuse, and these were continuing. The first priority for now was to establish a stable system following the merger of benefits and transfer to a new IT system.

RECOMMENDED

That the Audit Commission report be received and the proposed action for the continuing improvement of the benefit service be approved.
