V27-23 : HACKNEY CARRIAGE - MILLENNIUM TARIFF

The report of the Chief Executive reminded members that at the last meeting they had expressed concern that the Bank Holiday tariff was not sufficient to encourage enough Taxi Drivers to work over the Millennium period to meet the public's transport demands. Members wished to consider an unmetered, one-off first mile tariff to address the problem.

A pro-forma in the Taxi and Private Hire Newsletter requested taxi drivers' views, and eight replies had been received. Taking these views into account, members felt that a charge of £15 should be made for the first mile over the Millennium period, with Tariff 3 being used thereafter.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to advertise the proposed Millennium charge of £15 for the first mile and Tariff 3 thereafter be made for hire of hackney carriages over the Millennium period between 11pm 31 December 1999 and 6am 2 January 2000.
