Application to reduce size of front window.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined an application to reduce the size of the old shop window and surround at the above property, and install a new purpose made timber sliding sash window, to reduce problems of traffic noise suffered by the applicant. The opposite, modern joinery window would also be replaced with another sliding sash window.

Although it was a pity to lose the old shopfront window, there was benefit in replacing the opposite inappropriate modern window with one more in keeping with the building and its surroundings. Provided that due care was exercised in matching the bricks, bonding and mortar for infilling, the changes would retain a pleasant appearance in character with the conservation area, and the Director recommended approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W2546/8, subject to use of matching materials.
